I’m so glad you’re here!
My name is Nicoletta Richardson, and I’m an editor, writer, strategist and storyteller who lives by the motto that life is too short to stay in one lane. For me, that means a career that’s involved tackling breaking news on the morning team at TODAY.com, the digital arm of NBC’s TODAY Show; launching the first-ever Entertainment vertical at Apartment Therapy; producing wellness-focused content to grow an audience across social media platforms at Women’s Health; among other things.
When I was in high school, I fell in love with storytelling while flipping through National Geographic and in my favorite English class, where we dissected words of famous poets and asked ourselves the question, “What do these words really mean?” I became fixated on the idea that a seemingly simple sentence could make a huge impact, and found myself in a dream scenario when I landed an internship at National Geographic Kids, and post-college, at Time For Kids Magazine. While children’s publishing wasn’t my passion, I saw it as an opportunity to get my foot in the door, meet fellow journalists and launch my career. From that point on, my trajectory has been complex, diverse, ever-evolving, unexpected and beautiful:
2014, Travel + Leisure: Freelance Research/Editorial Assistant
2015, The Knot: Editorial Assistant, Real Weddings
2016, AFAR Media: Assistant Editor
2017-2018, Women’s Health: Social Media Editor
2018-2022, Apartment Therapy: Senior Associate Editor + Entertainment Editor
2022-2025, TODAY.com: Trending Editor
2026 … more on this soon!
This doesn’t include freelance writing gigs, my part-time career as a fitness instructor and my own content creation across my social media pages.
At one point in time, we were told as journalists to pick a lane. I never did, but instead, moved with the times — whether it was my choice or not — and have evolved into the innovative, multi-faceted and adaptable editorial leader that I am today.
Whether it’s informing our readers of need-to-know news while upholding journalistic standards, leading the charge on editorial tentpoles and projects that aim to educate and grow a loyal audience, managing and mentoring the next generation of journalists to care deeply about the world around us, representing my team and staying ahead of trends at industry events, red carpets and work trips or simply being a safe space in a wild news cycle for colleagues who are friends — I am not one thing. And that’s what makes me a stand-out journalist.
